Hall Of Fame Honor
It has been a "Super Summer" 2016. I got a chance to go back to my hometown of Michigan City, Indiana and saw some old friends at my 45th high school class reunion. Other travel included visiting the spectacular Niagara Falls (more on that trip later) Also I went back to Illinois State University and spent time with former teammates Roger Powell, and Steve Danielson. Perhaps the summer highlights was being inducted to the Michigan City High School Football Hall Of Fame. My basketball career over-shadowed my football accomplishments. Most people don't know that I was a two-way player on the grid-iron. I won the starting quarterback as a sophomore, junior and senior. During that time Red Devils teams were 6-3-1, 7-2-1, and 7-2. Each year were were among the top ranked teams in the state. My junior and senior years I was named first team All-Conference defensive back, and as a senior I was a first team All-State selection. Not too bad for a guy who was not very fast, I did not particularly like contact, or being outside on cold days. Read more about those Red Devil football days in my book, Swagger, The Life and Times of Rick Whitlow.
