So what does a healthy, energetic, sixty-four year old man do to amuse himself? Ah, yeah, that too, but how about for the other 23 hours, and fifty-five minutes of the day? It may seem absolutely crazy, but I have signed up with Uber to be a ride-share driver. Risky? Dangerous? Sometimes probably a little of both. However, doing it in the city of Atlanta assures me that it will never be boring.
As of this writing I have already been doing it for about three weeks. And for the lack of a better word, it has been INTERESTING. My biggest fear is not the stranger in the night that sometimes crawls into my back seat. Because they are usually simply trying to get from one place to another. I probably fear those big trucks that speed past you, or barrel down on you from behind as if they don't see you. (ever heard of I-285?) It's un-nerving sometimes looking at those headlights coming towards you, hoping the person behind the wheel is alert, awake, and not texting on their phone.
I have never lived in fear, and certainly will not start doing so at this stage of life. Actually I find this adventure not as scary as the time I went skydiving with the U.S. Army Golden Knights, or being at the Rucker's basketball tournament in New York and found myself the only man back on defense with Earl Monroe, and Julius Erving coming at me on a fast break. (they scored) And I assure you it certainly isn't as scary as running for political office in Jackson, Ms. Life has prepared me well for this new adventure and challenge. So each week join me on the direct link here on Facebook and on my website blog Rickwhitlow22.com for, "Confessions from an Atlanta Ride-Share Driver." Working here in the Metro Atlanta area has already raised my eyebrows several times. You just never know who's going to get in your car or where you will get to take them. This is a huge city with a lot of huge celebrities who sometimes quietly without fanfare are trying to get from one place to another. I hope I can assist them and the not so famous get to their final destinations. This is going to be fun.
