My Rider Went Into Labor.

They said it could happen and sure enough in the early morning hours of November 8, 2017, it did. My rider (Jasmine) got into the car, and went into labor. YES!.... As in having a baby. When I pulled up to her house, it was very obvious that she was in the late stages of her pregnancy, so I drove up the drive way as close as I could so she would not have to walk very far. Our conversation went like this:

Me: Good morning. How are you?

Jasmine: Fine. I am trying to have this baby.

Me: You mean later today?

Jasmine: No. I mean like right now.

Me: Where are we going?

Jasmine: Emory Hospital. I think I can hold off, but let's get there as soon as we can.

Keep in mind, this was during Atlanta downtown morning rush hour. Traffic was heavy and several times at a standstill. I told her I could call a police officer and he would probably help us get to the hospital quicker, but she assured me she could "hold it." Several times along the way I looked back and asked if she was O.K. she said she was, but it sure did not look or sound like it.

She had started to do that breathing thing women do just before they give birth. I kept thinking that at any minute I was going to have pull over on Peachtree St and deliver this baby. I was thinking about that famous line Hattie McDaniel had in the movie Gone With The Wind... "I don't know nothing about birthing no babies..." It took us 23 minutes and 40 seconds to go 4.82 miles in downtown morning traffic. When we arrived I walked her to the door, and turned her over to the professionals. We made it with room to spare. She even let me take a picture of her before she was admitted. I plan to call the hospital and make sure that every thing went well for Jasmine and her baby. This is why being a ride share driver is so much fun. You just never know what's going to happen. No two days are the same.
