Is Success Really A Secret?
It seems that so many people spend their time searching for the secret to success. Of course there is not a straight line to that goal, and everyone has their own opinion as to what success looks like, and when it has been achieved. You know what is often said about opinions... They are like shadows-everybody has one. No doubt talent helps in the search for that elusive place or sometimes material things we call success. I have been fortunate and blessed to have accomplished many goals, done many things, and been to many places. My life's comfort zone as it stands right now is where I hoped it would be.
However, as I reflect back, I realize that whatever I have done well was not always about my talent. I have found that when I have been at my best, and accomplishing my personal and professional goals, I have done so with at least ten things that required absolutely NO TALENT. Here they are in no particular order.
1. Attitude 6. Being Prepared
2. Work Ethic 7. Doing Extra
3. Effort 8. Body Language
4. Energy 9. Being on Time
5. Passion 10. Being Coachable
As I mentioned in my book-early in life I developed a path to success that I followed. I called it my P.O.E.T.T. approach to everything I did. It stands for Preparation, Organization, Effort, Time Management, and Team Work.
Whenever I have had the opportunity to speak to and/or influence people of all ages who are struggling on how to set and accomplish their life goals-my POETT thing is mentioned early and often.
So it is in that spirit that I try to stay positive and encourage others to do the same. I tell people that even if you chose to do nothing- you have made a decision. If things seem to be in chaos , search for some magic in whatever mess that surrounds you. Let's keep moving forward. We can do this.
